Temptation can grip you with a chokehold, leaving you breathless and completely helpless. It presents to you a choice, but distorts your vision so that you cannot see clearly what is the right decision. It makes you think that there is no way out, that yielding would feel so good, and that what you do really wouldn’t matter that much. These are the lies that Satan throws in your face, to fool you and catch you off guard.
There is a real battle going on in the heavenly places, all day long and all night long. Satan and his demons roam the globe like hungry lions, their only intention to find and mutilate the children of men. Jesus has already defeated the forces of darkness and sits victorious on the throne, but Satan is still hunting for as many victims to take to hell with him as he can. But no matter what he can try to do to us, NOTHING can ever separate us from the love that Jesus has for us. God’s love and protection is available to anyone who will reach out and ask for His help.
Knowing this can help us remember that victory is just around the corner, and also just behind that looming, translucent giant of a temptation. And as we fight this giant with the Sword of the Spirit, he is completely defenseless and turns into the victim.
To everyone reading this, don’t wait to pick up your Sword! Take up your shield and fight bravely as a good soldier! Here are your weapons:
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
– 1 Corinthians 10:13
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
– James 1:12
For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come BOLDLY unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
…the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day judgement to be punished:
2 Peter 2:9
The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth him out of them ALL.
